Toy of the Week

Hello hello!

As promised, we started to take some pictures of some of the best toys we've come across and thought they might convey why we fell in love with them in the first place.

This little beauty above is called Bertie, World War Robot (the Dirty Deeds edition.) We were one of 6 winners chosen in a blind lottery to purchase a piece at this year's New York Comic Con. What's so great about a toy that it would have to be raffled just for the chance to buy it, you might say? Well, allow us to explain.

Bertie is a robot based on the work of comic illustrator and artist Ashley Wood. The man does gorgeous work and this piece absolutely does it justice in 3-D form. The piece has 40 plus points of articulation, with 3 points in each finger alone. In the toy world, this means Bertie can hold just about anything, as you can see from his firm grasp on the decapitated head here. The rust on him is hand created, the consistent attention to details in coloring, packaging and nearly a dozen well-executed accessories-- is pretty incredible. Bertie is a great example of spending the time and energy to make things not just perfect, but really badass. The designers of this toy were hands on and involved in its creation from start to finish.

We think that's how things should be, whether it's a comic, a toy, an album...whatever. Creating something really cool is about the process. Hopefully, our love for the mediums we work in will shine through as much as Bertie.

The Winner of the Lookalike Contest

Happy Friday boys and girls,

Starting to get some pics back from NYCC, including this one of Claudio and Kill Audio:

Considering we are big lovers of designer toys, it is pretty incredible to see him finally come to fruition. The man who helped take him from off the page and into our grubby little paws as a sculpture is Josh Sutton, whose patience amidst constant demands for "more oozing blood" and "bigger knives that we can stab him with" has been truly commendable.

In the next couple of days, we hope to put up some photos of our own favorites from the VinylCut toy collection...pieces that fueled the desire to get our feet wet in the world of art toys. Get ready for robots, super heros, a ninja or two and more smoking ice cream cones than anyone could ask for.

LIttle Blurb on the Artist

Just realized we forgot to mention the artist involved with Kill Audio.

The talented Aussie, Sheldon Vella is the artist behind the comic. Sheldon is a champ at putting our sometimes, uh, "ambitious" ideas into the chaotic and warped world of Kill Audio. The characters, settings...it's all looking so awesome. Can't wait for you guys to see it.

We promise you won't be disappointed with the work he churns out.

New York Comic Con Update

Hey everyone,

Thank you to everybody who got a chance to stop by New York Comic Con this weekend to check out the newest addition to the Evil Ink family--The bouncing baby Kill Audio. For those of you who couldn't make it, here is a little update:

Kill Audio is a brand new story that will be featured here in comic strips, as well as various print locations, including a portion of the miniseries in the next issue of Popgun from Image Comics. Take the first 12 strips to get to know Kill Audio as he, well, gets to know himself.

We also debuted the second part of this new story, 7" vinyl figures of Kill Audio himself! It is the first piece from Evil Ink, in conjunction with our new toy company, VinylCut,. We are very proud of the little bastard;) As you can see from the pictures in our photo section, he comes in greyscale as well as a limited bloody variant, each with removable weapons so you can kill him yourself. He will be available starting in July 2008, with a secret limited variant debuting at San Diego Comic Con, but keep checking back to hear updates about retailers in your area who will have their hands on him as well.

So as you can see things have been busy so far this year. You can look forward to lots of news, info and rampant blogs about what's going on in these parts. Hopefully we will see a lot of you at San Diego Comic Con this year. Feel free to drop us a line on here and let us know what you think of Kill Audio or just about anything else you feel like gabbing about.

Until then,

EI
